Description
The direct shear apparatus determines the shear resistance of soil — the angle of internal friction and cohesion — by the consolidated-drained and unconsolidated shear schemes.
The electromechanical drive sets the shear rate from 0.00001 to 10 mm/min, covering both rapid tests on sands and slow drained shear of clayey soils. The normal load is applied by a pneumatic system with an electronic regulator, without weights or levers.
The force and displacement transducers are connected to the controller: the test runs by programme, and the operator only sets the normal pressure steps. The software plots the shear diagrams and the strength envelope for a series of specimens.
